Italy: Sirmione

Ahh..Sirmione, an Italian jewel on the southern bank of Lake Garda welcomed me with old world charm and romance. From the Roman ruins of Grotte di Catullo to the medieval castle of Rocca Scaligera this quaint village exhibits a storied history that will enthrall the most modern of travelers. The approximately ten square mile town set at the tip of a peninsula allows one to transverse thousand of years in just a a few mile walk. Imagining the lives lived here throughout millennia and the stories told is a humbling experience that allows one to be swept up in a living history that seems to erase the shackles of time.
